What is Luxury Car Tax (LCT)?

Luxury car tax is a tax of 33% imposed on luxury vehicles. Luxury car tax is generally payable when a car is sold and is in addition to any goods and services tax (GST ) payable.

A luxury car is a car with a GST inclusive above the car tax threshold.

What is the Luxury Car Tax Threshold?

The luxury car tax threshold is equal to the car limit, which is $57,466 for the 2010 / 2011 financial year.

The car limit is reviewed each financial year and may change.

Cars with a GST inclusive value above the luxury car tax threshold are subject to luxury car tax.

In general, the value of a car includes the value of any parts, accessories, or attachments supplied or imported at the same time as the car.
